The sixth New Zealand Orthoptic conference was held in conjunction with the RANZCO NZ Branch Meeting in the Auckland Viaduct Events Centre. Of the 22 orthoptists currently working in New Zealand 18 attended the two-day event.

The program included sessions covering a wide range of subjects such as diagnostics, orthoptic treatment, nystagmus, congenital eye anomalies and myopia. Nine orthoptists presented interesting cases that generated much discussion and provided reflective practice for continuous professional development. An interactive accommodative workshop gave an overview of accommodative problems and treatment options.

Several potential national studies have arisen following the conference that will start in the near future, with the results to be presented at next years’ event.

We wish to thank all the orthoptists and our ophthalmic colleagues for their support and input to make a thought provoking, highly interesting and relevant conference for the profession. We could not be able to host such an event without the ongoing support of RANZCO.
