The Team
We're on the lookout for a flexible and passionate Orthoptist or Ophthalmic Technician to join us in the Ophthalmology Department at Christchurch Hospital, the largest public hospital in the South Island!
Joining a team of four Orthoptists, two Optometrists, two Ophthalmic Technicians; you will work closely with our highly skilled and specialised Ophthalmologists with specific interests in Paediatrics and Neuro-ophthalmology, among others. You'll see a wide diversity of clinical practice and exposure to eye pathology not available in the community setting.
This permanent role is for 40 hours per week, with the potential to be filled by two separate part-time applicants, in which the specific arrangement of these hours will be discussed and mutually agreed upon.
We are accepting applications from both Orthoptists and Ophthalmic Technicians on either a part-time or full-time basis. Please clearly indicate in your cover letter how many hours you are available for.
The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
- Orthoptist: Providing orthoptic investigation, diagnosis and management to patients; accurate and consistent multi-media documentation of patients; providing appropriate education and training to other members of the department
- Ophthalmic Technician: Undertaking visual function and technical tests in both adult and paediatric patients; recording test results for the referring Ophthalmologist; carrying out administrative tasks associated with the patient management system
Your skills will include the following:
- Orthoptists: Qualification to the equivalent of Bachelor of Applied Science (Orthoptics); previous experience as an Orthoptist, including ophthalmic assisting; Experience with a wide range of technical equipment, which will see you transition easily into our busy team consisting of allied eye professionals, as well as a large team of nurses; Experience in a hospital setting is advantageous
- Ophthalmic Technician: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team; A professional approach to your work with the ability to respect and maintain confidentiality; Computer knowledge and literacy; the ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure; previous work experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is advantageous
